Bedbugs have been observed in the building and treatments / preventive treatment against bedbugs is going to be carried out.

Your home must be treated all three times regardless of whether you have observed bedbugs or not. The treatment does not cause unpleasant smells and it is safe for humans and pets. However, humans and pets must not stay in the home during the treatment itself, and you must wait 20 minutes after the treatment is completed before re-entering your home.

It is essential that Absolut Pest Control has access to all homes within the specified time period. If you cannot be home yourself, please make sure someone is there to let us in. The key could possibly be left with a neighbour or a caretaker or maybe it can be placed in a caretaker mailbox.

When your home is being treated for bedbugs

Treatment will be done along the skirting boards, if it is possible, please make sure they are easily accessible.
You must vacuum the entire home thoroughly, especially along the skirting boards, just before each treatment. On the days between the treatments, avoid vacuuming right up to the skirting boards.
You must change your bedding before we arrive and wash it at a minimum of 60 degrees.
All beds in the home must be set upright and remain that way until we have been there.
The underside of the beds needs to be vacuumed before we arrive.
We must have access to all pipe penetrations, technical cabinets and the like in the home.
Do not clean thoroughly immediately after the treatment. Do not wash or clean the treated areas. We also recommend that you do not wash the floor all the way up to the skirting boards during the entire treatment period
You should completely refrain from using other insecticides during the weeks when the pest control is carried out.
When you have a bedbug infestation it is extremely important that you sleep in your usual spot. You should not throw away any furniture or move it around in your house.

Information on bedbugs

The bedbug (Cimex lectularius) is a wingless tick that has a proboscis which it uses to draw blood. It can grow to lengths of 6 mm and has a body that is as thin as paper, unless it is filled with blood. The regular bedbug is a reddish-brown and it prefers human blood. However, it can also draw blood from, birds, rats, mice and rabbits, if no humans are present.

Bedbugs are secretive

Bedbugs live where we sleep and only come out at night. The bedbug does not like light and during the day, it hides in cracks and crevices, underneath your bed and along skirting boards. Here, it digests its food, breeds and lays eggs. Once it is dark, it hunts down its prey which it locates by heat.

The female bedbug lays around 200 eggs in its lifetime, approximately 4-5 eggs per day. The eggs are laid in suitable hiding places where the base is sufficiently sticky for the eggs to remain in place. If the temperature drops to under 10°C, no eggs will be laid. Thus, the amount of eggs laid depends a lot on temperature and other external conditions. An egg measures about 1 mm and evolves through five nymph stages. The nymphs basically resemble small copies of the adult bedbug. In order to evolve, the tick requires blood in every single stage, and it can take between two months to a whole year to evolve from egg to fully-grown bedbug.

Some people experience the bite of a bedbug as small itchy spots on the body. The bites, however, vary considerably in appearance from person to person, so it can often be difficult to determine whether it really is a bedbug bite or not. Up to 30% of Danes have no reaction at all to bedbug bites.

The bedbug has become a large problem in this country at locations such as hotels, residence halls, hostels and on housing estates. They are spread via clothes, luggage and furniture that is brought into the home, or very often following overnight stays in a bedbug-infested environment. Second-hand furniture that has been purchased from a home with bedbugs can also be the reason.

If you live in an apartment, bedbugs can also spread from apartment to apartment via piping and other cracks in the building.
